John Paul II High School Athletic Director and Head Football Coach George Teague has been named a 2026 recipient of the Paul W. Bryant Alumni-Athlete Award. According to a release from The University of Alabama National Alumni Association, Teague and fellow recipient Ronny Robertson will be recognized Sept. 5 during Alabama’s first home football game of the season against East Carolina in Tuscaloosa.
Established in 1988, the Paul W. Bryant Alumni-Athlete Award honors former University of Alabama athletes who have demonstrated outstanding character, significant contributions to society, professional achievement and service to others after leaving the university.

For Teague, the honor recognizes a career that has extended well beyond his accomplishments on the football field.
Regarding the award, Teague said, "I’m deeply honored and humbled to receive the Paul W. Bryant Alumni-Athlete Award. The University of Alabama has had such a meaningful impact on my life, both as an athlete and as a person, and I’m grateful for the coaches, teammates, JPII, family, and friends who have been part of this journey. To be recognized alongside so many outstanding Crimson Tide alumni is incredibly special. This award is a reminder that the greatest measure of success isn’t what you accomplish on the field, but the difference you can make in the lives of others."
Teague played for the Crimson Tide from 1989 to 1993 and gained national recognition for his performance during Alabama’s 1992 national championship game against the University of Miami. He was selected 29th overall by the Green Bay Packers in the 1993 NFL Draft and went on to play nine seasons in the NFL, including time with the Packers, Dallas Cowboys and Miami Dolphins.
His connection to Alabama has continued long after his playing career. Teague was inducted into the Alabama Sports Hall of Fame in 2021 and remains active with the university through the National Alumni Association’s Tide in Texas chapter. In 2023, he returned to Tuscaloosa as The University of Alabama’s Homecoming Grand Marshal.
Today, Teague brings that experience to John Paul II High School in Plano, Texas, where he serves as athletic director. His work also extends into sports media. He serves as an NFL analyst for CBS 11 covering the Dallas Cowboys and hosts the Teague’s Takes podcast with his son, James.
The Paul W. Bryant Alumni-Athlete Award adds another distinction to a career shaped by athletics, leadership and continued service.
