The JPIIHS Theatre is a place to shine!

Theatre students at JPIIHS can compete in the TAPPS One act play contest, travel with a one- act musical, be the masters of the magic in Tech Theatre, sing and dance in a major Spring musical and develop comedic skills with the JPIIHS improve troupe Chaos-ity. JPIIHS Theatre is a member of the Theatre Honor Society, The International Thespian Society, Troupe #7086.

Come Join our Theatre Tribe!

JPIIHS Theatre combines a welcoming, fun atmosphere with the acting, vocal, movement and technical skills needed to produce plays that will provide memories for a lifetime. From the first class or rehearsal there is a sense of belonging and an instant group of friends.

The JPIIHS Theatre Production class is an advanced acting class studying movement, voice and acting styles. We compete in the TAPPS One Act Play Contest in the fall. We have advanced to the State level all 6 years since the contest was added as an event in 2011. Last year we ranked third in State!

The Musical Theatre class studies voice, dance and acting. They travel with a one act musical to some of the Catholic schools near us. Some of our past one act musicals have included Honk! Jr., Seussical Jr., Into the Woods Jr., and Annie Jr.

Technical Theatre builds sets and props, focus lights and work on costuming. In the past we have built a pool with real water on stage for Mary Zimmerman’s Metamorphoses, Cinderella’s carriage, Fiona’s tower and all 4 of the Little Shop of Horror Audrey 2 plants.

The Spring Musical is a chance for all of our Fine Arts students to shine. Theatre, Choir and Band will combine talents in the spring to produce a full- length musical. Some of our past musicals include Little Shop of Horrors, Singing in the Rain, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, Shrek the Musical and The Sound of Music.

Chaos-ity Improv troupe is a group that is open to anyone who would like to audition. Chaos-ity meets once a week to learn improv games and participates in a show in the spring.

List of 6 frequently asked questions.

  • Q. Who can be in theatre?

Anyone! We welcome all levels of experience in performance and tech theatre.
  • Q. I want to be in Theatre but it takes so much time!

Any quality endeavor takes time and effort and we strive to produce quality productions at JPIIHS Theatre! That being said, we want students to experience as much of JPIIHS organizations as they can. There will be after school rehearsals for all of the shows, however, the One Act Contest play and the Traveling musical have the fewest rehearsals. Most of the rehearsals are in class with a just a few after school. The Spring musical involves students from all over the school so all of the rehearsals are after school but a schedule will show which rehearsals a cast member needs to attend.
  • Q. Why do I want to be in Theatre?

Theatre is Fun!! Theatre students get to do all of the arts! Acting, music, dance and visual art, they are all part of Theatre. Join us for classes, social activities and Christian Service projects. You will learn team building and leadership skills. And you will have an instant family here at JPIIHS!
  • Q. Auditions?

Auditions are held at the beginning of May for the next year’s Theatre Production class and the Musical Theatre class. Contact Mrs. Tuck at terrytuck@johnpauliihs.org for an audition time. There is no audition required for Theatre 1 or Tech Theatre. Auditions for the one- act shows happen in the Theatre Production and Musical theatre classes. The spring musical auditions are at the end of January each year. The Chaos-ity Improv Troupe auditions at the beginning of each year.
  • Q. Are there any costs to being in theatre?

Cast members are asked to pay a show fee of $50 each if they are in the One Act Play or the Traveling musical. The spring musical show fee is $75. The Theatre Booster Club provides meals before shows. These are $7 a meal.
  • Q. I am new to Theatre. Is there a place for me?

There is a place for everyone in Theatre! If you can see yourself on stage or running the backstage, we have a place for you. Contact Mrs. Tuck with questions at Email. We would love for you to be a part of the JPIIHS Theatre Department.
