Dr. Marlene Hammerle, Ed.D.
Dr. Marlene Hammerle is the Principal of John Paul II High School. She is responsible for the overall academic operations of the school which include curriculum and instruction, the Counseling Department, Director of College Placement, Instructional Technology, hiring new teachers, and evaluations of all personnel working in the academic area.
Dr. Hammerle was named principal in December of 2017. Her career has been entirely in education. She grew up in El Paso, Texas and went through Catholic schools from elementary through college. She earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Dallas, two master's degrees, one in Mathematics and the second in Educational Administration at Texas A & M Commerce. Her Doctorate is in Educational Administration from the same university.
She started her career as a middle school math teacher in El Paso teaching math to disadvantaged students and then moved to Garland, Texas, where she taught math at both the middle school and high school levels. Her administrative career included being an Assistant Principal for Instruction at Webb Middle School, principal of Lyles Middle School which earned the prestigious National Blue Ribbon award during her tenure there, and then was given the opportunity to open Rowlett High School where she was the principal until 2012 when she was asked to join the faculty at John Paul II High School.
She has received several awards including being selected as ‘Principal of the Year’ for the region and a mentor principal in the state for new principals and principals who were struggling at their assigned schools. Dr. Hammerle began at John Paul Ii High School as the Associate Dean of Curriculum and Instruction and also served as the Dean of Learning Services at JPII where she supervised PSAT testing, the advanced placement program, assigned academic departments, student activities, support programs for students which includes the hiring of a learning specialist this year, counseling, and instructional technology. She considers working with students and teachers her calling.
Dr. Hammerle is married to Steve Hammerle, former Dean of Students at JPII. They have one son Sean, two grandsons, Christian and Leif, and one granddaughter, Brooklyn Grace. She enjoys traveling with her husband and living in the peace and quiet of the country.
