Angie Cimbalo, recently retired as director of the Collin County Youth Orchestra along with retiring in 2013 from 34 years of teaching music in Texas. She has been teaching orchestra at JPIIHS since 2014.
Mrs. Cimbalo has taught in Odessa, the Austin area, Abilene, Amarillo, Richardson and Allen, teaching both band and orchestra students at all levels from elementary to college level. She received her Bachelor of Music Education degree, magna cum laude, from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. Her groups have been festival and consistent contest winners including consecutive UIL sweepstakes awards, Best in Class awards, Outstanding Orchestra awards. Orchestras from Richardson High School and Apollo Junior High in Richardson ISD, under her direction, placed multiple times in the final rounds of the state Texas Music Educator’s Association’s competition for Honor Orchestra in both string and full orchestra categories. Apollo Junior High Orchestra, under the direction of Mrs. Cimbalo was named first place in the state three consecutive times and performed for the Texas Music Educator’s Convention in 1999, 2001 and 2003 in San Antonio. The Ereckson MS Chamber Orchestra in Allen ISD, under her direction, also placed in the finals of TMEA Honor Orchestras competition, prior to her retirement in May 2013.
Mrs. Cimbalo is an active clinician and adjudicator for TMEA, UIL, and festival events around the state. Her primary instruments are cello, trombone and piano and she has performed with various symphonies and chamber groups over the years. She lives in McKinney with her husband Phil, a cellist, and has four grown children, and five grandchildren. Since retiring, she has been directing the orchestra at John Paul II High School, a private college preparatory high school in Plano, Texas, making music related crafts in her spare time for her online Etsy shop, and enjoying spending time with her family.
The JPII Orchestra is a fun, vibrant organization that performs throughout the year with a goal of producing well-rounded students who are excellent musicians, students, and leaders.

...consistent Division I “Sweepstakes” ratings in TPSMEA Concert and Sight-reading competitions. In the Springs of 2016, 2017 and 2018, the JPII Orchestra not only received superior ratings at the Peak Music Festival, but they were also selected for the “Outstanding Orchestra Award”.
The orchestra performs three concerts each year, a fall concert, a Christmas concert and a spring concert. In the past, they have also performed at local contests in the spring. During the year, the orchestra also performs regularly with the choir at All School masses. The orchestra is involved with Community Service, as we "Seek to Serve" by performing for a retirement community in Plano. The JPII Orchestra is a regular class and meets 2nd period on A Days. Orchestra students are members of the Football, Baseball, Basketball, Track, Swimming, Tennis, Softball, and Soccer teams. They are also involved in most of the clubs on campus such as Academic Decathlon, Student Council, Robotics, NHS and many more.
