JPII Theatre combines a welcoming, fun atmosphere with the acting, vocal, movement and technical skills needed to produce plays that will provide memories for a lifetime. From the first class or rehearsal there is a sense of belonging and an instant group of friends.
The JPII Theatre Production class is an advanced acting class studying movement, voice and acting styles. We compete in the TAPPS One Act Play Contest in the fall. We have advanced to the State level all 6 years since the contest was added as an event in 2011. Last year we ranked third in State!
The Musical Theatre class studies voice, dance and acting. They travel with a one act musical to some of the Catholic schools near us. Some of our past one act musicals have included Honk! Jr., Seussical Jr., Into the Woods Jr., and Annie Jr.
Technical Theatre builds sets and props, focus lights and work on costuming. In the past we have built a pool with real water on stage for Mary Zimmerman’s Metamorphoses, Cinderella’s carriage, Fiona’s tower and all 4 of the Little Shop of Horror Audrey 2 plants.
The Spring Musical is a chance for all of our Fine Arts students to shine. Theatre, Choir and Band will combine talents in the spring to produce a full- length musical. Some of our past musicals include Little Shop of Horrors, Singing in the Rain, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Cinderella, Shrek the Musical and The Sound of Music.
Chaos-ity Improv troupe is a group that is open to anyone who would like to audition. Chaos-ity meets once a week to learn improv games and participates in a show in the spring.
