Tips for Parents

From ninth grade through twelfth grade, parents are a great influence in their student’s life. By paying attention to the JP II website, by attending information sessions, and by contacting the counselors when needed, parents can become aware of the structured activities at school and the opportunities available for their student.  Parents need to stay involved, even as their student moves into the higher grades.

When it is time for a student to become involved in the college process, parents can assist their student by offering loving support, by reminding their student of timelines and dates, and by acting as the calming influence in the process.  Parents should never contact the college or university directly.  The student is responsible for making all calls, emails and contacts.  In addition, students must do all the paperwork, and complete and submit all applications.  Students are truly the “owners” of this process; if parents take over the process, they are making their student look incompetent and robbing them of this life learning experience.
