In accordance with the John Paul II High School Academic Handbook, a student needs to be in attendance 90 percent of the days the class is offered to receive credit. On the block schedule, this means a student can only miss four days of a class before falling below the 90 percent rule. This includes excused and unexcused absences. Field trips and college visits do not impact the 90 percent rule.
When a student exceeds this amount of days absent, they will be required to make up hours in tutorials, detention and Saturday school, unless there are extenuating circumstances. The student will be given a make up sheet with the amount of hours they need to complete, so they don’t lose credit due to attendance in their class. When the student completes the hours assigned, this sheet will be returned to Denise Hammersla, Attendance Clerk in the Academic Administration Office and the credit will be restored with the approval of Mr. Gaffney.
