On June 7, 2008, a group of youth and chaperones will be departing from Dallas, Texas to Trujillo, Honduras on a two week Youth Mission Trip. Our purpose is to assist the community of Trujillo by focusing on their most pressing needs of the community.
In 1997, Hurricane Mitch devastated the country of Honduras, killing thousands of people, wiping out entire villages and roads, and destroying fields of the country’s largest exports of bananas, African palm as well as other agricultural commodities. Upon hearing this, the Catholic Bishops of Texas each adopted a diocese in Honduras. It is through this project that the people of Texas have built a relationship and solidarity with the people of Honduras.
This will mark the fourth annual mission trip from the Dallas Diocese High Schools along with their chaperones who will travel to Trujillo, Honduras to continue this work of solidarity. Our goal is to build hope in a country that is forgotten, and to nurture a sense of service within our youth.
