Students who have taken the May Advanced Placement exams and seniors may earn the right to exempt Spring Semester final exams if they meet certain criteria. Exempt students do not have to come to school for the testing period. Conditions for exemption include: • All students who took the Advanced Placement exam in their respective subject may be exempt from their final exam. The decision of whether to have a final assessment in an AP class belongs to the teacher of the course. • College Prep (CP) students with an 88 or higher average for both the 3rd and 4th nine weeks. (Fourth Quarter grade must be an 88 or above and can be averaged with the Third Quarter grade for a total of 88 or above) • Pre-AP students with an 85 or higher average for both the 3rd and 4th nine weeks. (Fourth Quarter grade must be an 85 or above and can be averaged with the Third Quarter grade for a total of 85 or above)
The following statements apply to all CP, Pre-AP, and AP class exemptions: • Students may not have more than four (4) excused absences or any unexcused absences for the spring semester in the class to be exempt. • Students may not have been suspended during the spring semester to be exempt. • Students may not have been adjudicated as violating the Academic Honor code during their senior year to be exempt. • Three (3) tardies in the same class is equal to one (1) unexcused absence.
Athletic programs and academic competitions courses such as Debate, Mock Trial, and Academic Decathlon may exempt students in the fall and spring semesters from a summative assessment.
