Wendy Rupp 

As Director of Guidance, Wendy Rupp brings a wealth of experience in both classroom instruction and high school counseling to the students of John Paul II High School. Mrs. Rupp earned her Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Baylor University, and later went on to earn her Master’s of Arts Degree in Guidance and Counseling from Point Loma Nazarene University.  She has taught foreign language and worked as a guidance counselor in Texas and California.  For the last nine years Mrs. Rupp served as a guidance counselor in Plano ISD.  Her broad knowledge of university requirements and the admissions process, together with her interaction with college admission staffs across the state and nation enable her to expertly assist students in making the best choices in high school as they prepare for their college experience.  Mrs. Rupp’s mastery of high school curriculum and its interplay with university requirements renders her counsel particularly valuable as students navigate the complex process of selecting colleges and securing admission.  She was recently honored by her selection to deliver a presentation to counselors from across the nation at the 2006 College Board Forum.  Mrs. Rupp is highly respected by her colleagues for her dedication to students and staff, and for her deep knowledge of many programs including Advanced Placement.  Her focus is on developing students into academically adept, responsible and resilient individuals who are well-prepared to meet the rigors of academic life in and beyond high school.   Mrs. Rupp is married and has two children.

Jan Freund 

Jan Freund brings to her position a unique combination of teaching experience, real life knowledge with college placement, and the perspective of corporate hiring managers.  Mrs. Freund holds a B.S. in Education from Northwestern University, and an M.B.A. from the University of Houston.  She taught in both Illinois and Texas, having experience with students from kindergarten through high school.  She was most recently President of her own company, dedicated to helping students and their families manage the complexities of the college preparation, selection, and admissions process.  She has counseled parents and students in academic planning and organization, and has been involved in all facets of the college process.  Jan is married and has three children, two of whom are attending college and one in high school. 

 

George Coelen  

George Coelen has been involved in Catholic education at the high school level for more than thirty years.  He brings a variety of experiences to the counseling department, including teaching, coaching and program development.  He has a Master’s degree in English and a Master’s degree in Counseling, earning his LPC, licensed professional counselor.  He began his career in the classroom, teaching English, and is currently teaching two English I classes at JP II.  His coaching background includes a sixteen year stint as a varsity basketball coach, with 270 victories and five state championships.  Mr. Coelen believes strongly that coaching, counseling, and parenting are all forms of teaching. In addition, he has developed and administered summer enrichment programs for underprivileged students, developed and implemented a comprehensive drug education program and leadership development programs.  In January of this year, Mr. Coelen won the “Work for Heart” award from the Catholic Foundation, in recognition of his service to Catholic education.  George is married and has one son.
