The Love For Kids Christmas Party was ABSOLUTELY FABULOUS! The kids who came had a busy, fun, and amazing time.
Here is the list of JP II students who helped.
Lauren Foote, Cameron Skidmore, Jennifer Martinez, Alexis Brown, Dante Smith, Erik Delgado, Erik Garciamendez, Monica Vazquez, and Bridgett Ochoa.
I must say, I was extremely impressed with this group of young people. They were happy, caring, and energetic helpers. I believe they were a credit to our school and represented the true spirit of Christian service. This was NOT an easy, fluffy bit of service either. It was EARLY for a Saturday morning, freezing cold with a blowing wind, with most of the work was done outside on your feet the whole time.
I heard reports that roughly 4,000 kids poured out of those busses from all over Dallas and Collin County. There were school busses and many vans from organizations such as Boys & Girls Clubs of America. The many excited faces of the youngsters arriving from those busses made us realize that we had a LONG day of service ahead of us; fortunately, their happiness at being there was contagious, and I believe everyone got in the spirit in spite of the early morning, cold weather, and daunting number of visitors.
Our students did everything from food service, to sand art, to pony rides (which involved walking around and around in circles for hours with only ONE break in the routine), to volleyball/basketball games, to miscellaneous "floater" type jobs (where you went as needed). Most were on their feet the whole time, and it was exhausting work. I even took on the challenge of face-painting, which I have never done in my entire life. I didn't want to do that job because of my inexperience, but when I saw the long, long lines of kids waiting for a chance to have Santa or a candy-cane painted on their cheek, I decided I'd better jump in and LEARN. It turned out to be one of the most fun and rewarding days of my many years of volunteerism.
In summary, I am very proud of the attitude and service of our John Paul II students under these circumstances, and they should be commended.

I just wanted to add that this was my first time working for this particular event (Love for Kids) . I wanted to initially sign Dante and my daughter Jazmin who attends Bishop Lynch up for service hours , but I think we all agree it was way more than that. For anyone interested in having a blast at an event you won't forget I highly recommend volunteering at this event next year. This was by far the largest group or event they have volunteered for. I could not help but stay and get involved myself when I read the details of the Christmas Party. It was well organized and there was so much for all the kids to do. They all seemed to be having a great time as well as their chaperones. We left that day with a united feeling of the true spirit of Christmas.
Thank you for inviting us to participate and we are looking forward to next year.
Sincerely,
Chie Smith
Dear Sherry and John Paul II Students,
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's all I can think of that comes even close to what we here at the SoupMobile feel about the JP II Baggie Drive...and the JP II students that participated. Thank you so much for all the time, hard work, and organizational skills it took to amass that many baggies in such a relatively short time period.
It's mind-boggling!
We put the picture that you e-mailed to us of the 10,000 baggies on our Wall of Fame at SoupMobile headquarters. Our visitors will see what you accomplished, and I know they will be just as amazed as we are!
I am so impressed with the students of John Paul II High School students, not only for the supreme effort they showed with the Baggie Drive, but in the way they volunteer at the SoupMobile. It is a joy to work with so many happy, caring volunteers with positive attitudes.
The SoupMobile wants to say a very special "Thank You" to Lindsey Paris, Courtney Messina, Jenny Mendez and Alexis Brown for helping to collect the baggies. And, of course, to you, Sherry for putting JP II and the SoupMobile together in the first place!
Thanks again,

Parents,
I can't thank you enough for encouraging the boys to help with the Relay for Life. You would have been proud! Thank you to all the boys that helped with the Relay. They learned a little bit about food service, monitoring bounces houses, selling Luminarias, and passing out balloons to survivors. All while having a good time. The girls that offered to help cancelled at the last minute and some other JPII girls stepped up to help. All the students did an excellent job and they were thanked publicly this morning by the Relay chair. I hope that next year my efforts along with the Christian Service Ministry can promote "Relay Teams" within the different organizations at John Paul II. The students learned that they could have a positive experience, support the community, and have a good time.
Thanks again!

On behalf of John Corbett and his family, many thanks for allowing your students to participate in making cards for the clients who participate in the Meals On Wheels Program.
Mrs. Shea was wonderful in organizing the afternoon session. There were about 450 cards made in about 1 1/2 hours under the guidance of Mrs. Shea. Later during the week Mrs. Shea found some additional volunteers and many more wonderful cards were made. There were approximately 1200 from JPII students, 300 from students that my 11 yo daughter organized, and 400 from the Corbett household.
Please let the students who participated know that the colorful cards were very much appreciated. A card will be placed on each lunch tray on St. Pat's day to brighten the day of a less fortunate individual.
Plans are underway to construct Easter cards after Spring Break and 4th of July cards end of April/beginning of May. This is a project that can be done at home during free time.
One suggestion: If students wish to participate they may need to provide supplies (paper, glue stick, stamp). It would be better if each student would just bring a small amount of money (~$5). to cover the provided supplies. For this past project the supplies were provided by Mrs. Shea and myself.
