Pre-AP Courses

John Paul II High School is a college preparatory high school.  All curricula and classes will prepare students to matriculate to four-year universities, whether public or private.  The majority of classes are called College Preparatory (CP).  They will meet the specific National Standards for each subject but they will teach to the more demanding level required for success on the SAT Reasoning Exam, SAT Subject Area, PSAT, and ACT college entrance exams.

For the more advanced student, who is willing to perform at a more demanding level and pace, or who is able to handle college level work in high school, we will offer two additional levels of courses - Pre-Advanced Placement (Pre-AP) and Advanced Placement (AP).  Both types of classes will earn weighted grade points higher than the standard college preparatory classes.

AP Courses

John Paul II High School is committed to offering the full range of Advanced Placement courses. In these classes, students may earn college credit through nationally administered May exams. Advanced Placement classes will be open to all students irrespective of previous honors class status and will earn weighted grade points.

Advanced Placement classes may be preceded by Pre-Advanced Placement (Pre-AP) courses, which are traditionally freshmen and sophomore classes.  Their primary focus will be preparing students for the rigorous, Advanced Placement classes.  Students in these courses will complete work and read selections specifically necessary for success on the tests administered for potential college credit. There will be additional writing or lab work above standard requirements.  However, because it is our belief that all students who desire to work to a college level can succeed in Advanced Placement classes, all students may enroll in Advanced Placement courses.
